Applications:

1. As a novel feed additive. Suitable for all kinds of animals, especially large animals. Using calcium formate as a feed additive for piglets is mainly achieved through the formic acid decomposed in the gastric acid environment, which is beneficial to activate pepsinogen, make up for the deficiency of digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid secretion in piglets' stomachs, improve the digestibility of feed nutrients, promote piglets' appetite, and reduce the diarrhea rate. Adding 1%~1.5% calcium formate to piglet diets can significantly improve the growth performance of weaned piglets. German research found that adding 1.3% calcium formate to the diet of weaned piglets can improve feed conversion rate by 7%~8%, and adding 0.9% can reduce the incidence of diarrhea in piglets. Zheng Jianhua (1994) added 1.5% calcium formate to the diet of 28-day-old weaned piglets, and raised them for 25 days. The daily weight gain of piglets increased by 7.3%, the feed conversion rate increased by 2.53%, the protein and energy utilization rates increased by 10.3% and 9.8% respectively, and the diarrhea of piglets was significantly reduced. The use of calcium formate is effective before and after weaning because the gastric acid secreted by piglets themselves increases with age, and calcium formate contains 30% easily absorbed calcium, which can neutralize excess gastric acid and play a balancing role.

2. Used as a quick-setting agent, lubricant, and early-strength agent for cement. Used in building mortars and various concretes, it can accelerate the hardening speed of cement and shorten the setting time, especially in winter construction, to avoid the slow setting speed at low temperatures. It is quick to demold, allowing the concrete to develop strength and be put into use as soon as possible. The general dosage in dry powder mortar and concrete is about 0.5%~1%, with a maximum addition of 2.5%. Even in summer, using 0.3%~0.5% will have a significant early-strength effect.

Industrial-grade calcium formate, as a new type of early-strength agent, has a dual function: it can accelerate the hardening speed of cement and improve early strength, and it avoids the slow setting speed in winter construction or low-temperature and humid conditions, allowing cement products to increase strength and be put into use as soon as possible, especially contributing greatly to early strength. For a long time, calcium chloride has been used in engineering, but calcium chloride has the effect of corroding steel bars. Both domestic and foreign countries have developed chlorine-free accelerators. Calcium formate is a new type of early-strength material that can effectively accelerate the hydration of tricalcium silicate C3S in cement and increase the early strength of cement mortar, but it will not corrode steel bars or pollute the environment, so it is also widely used in oil field drilling and cementing.
